Be careful where you buy

rowhouseYou’re going to buy a rental property in another community.  Do you really know what you are buying?  Just because a city is “hot” doesn’t mean every neighborhood is “hot” yet alone every single home in a neighborhood.   There are so many factors that can effect an investment working or not.  Be sure to spend the time learning which areas are progressing and which ones are declining.  In cities, one block can make a difference.

When buying a row house find out what is attached.  Your house may be great but the attached property could be a nightmare.  If their roof leaks it may run into yours.  If their sewer backs up you could be smelling it.  If they have roaches, mice . . . well you get it.  An abandoned row house also sucks heat out of the adjoining houses which drives up heating bills.
